The vessel shapes the tree.

八雲 — yakumo, “eight clouds” — opens an ancient verse long held to be Japan’s first waka, sung in the old province of Izumo. Our founder lived and studied agriculture there; it was Izumo that taught us to read the bond between tree, soil, and the vessel that holds them.

Today we work from Tokyo, sourcing pots from kilns across Japan — the iron clays of Tokoname, the painted enamels of Kutani — and choosing only vessels worthy of a fine tree. We are not of Izumo, yet its spirit stays in our name: a pot is the ground and sky a tree lives within, the quiet cloud that lifts it. We seek pieces meant to be inherited, and carry them to collectors worldwide.
